A New Life for Jean
When we first met Jean in 2018, he was seven years old, sleeping on a cardboard sheet in the Praville market of Gonaïves.
Jean had lost both parents to illness and had no extended family to take him in. He survived by running small errands for market vendors. He was severely malnourished, had never stepped foot in a classroom, and was vulnerable to the dangers of the street.
"I didn't think about the future. I only thought about where I would find bread for the night," Jean recalls.
Jean was brought to ORDEPROGRESIA's Village Lumière project by a local community leader. Our team immediately provided him with a safe bed, nutritious meals, and the first medical checkup of his life.
The transformation was rapid. Within six months, Jean was enrolled in school. Today, Jean is one of the top students in his class, with an incredible talent for mathematics and a dream of becoming an engineer.
Jean is just one of the 210 orphans sponsored through our programme. His story is a testament to what is possible when a child is given a home, an education, and a community of belonging.
