Water for Praville: A Community Transformed
In the Praville neighborhood of Gonaïves, the sound of a hand-pump is more than just noise; it is the sound of hope.
Before ORDEPROGRESIA installed the community well in 2021, the 600 residents of this area faced a daily crisis. The only available water source was a stagnant creek located two miles away. The water was brown, brackish, and the primary cause of frequent cholera outbreaks in the village.
"I used to spend my whole morning just fetching enough water to cook one meal," says Marie, a local mother of four. "My children were always sick with stomach pains. Now, I walk five minutes to the well, and my children are healthy."
The impact of the Praville well extends far beyond health. With the hours saved from fetching water, Marie has been able to start a small vegetable stall, providing extra income for her family. Children are now in their classrooms by 8:00 AM instead of being on the road with heavy buckets.
This well was funded by a single international donor and built by local Haitian engineers. It is deep-bore, sustainable, and maintained by a local water committee trained by our team.
